Has she had her teeth cleaned at the Vets? Abscessed teeth can cause severe and a multitude of health problems for a dog. I would take her to the Vet and have her checked over. Talk with the Vet about her breath problem. There are products to help freshen your dogs’ breath. Also, there are toothpastes made specifically for dogs, get some and a tooth brush for her and start brushing her teeth. Never use humans toothpaste, always that made for dogs.

I know what you mean. My dog’s breath smells SOOO bad! Okay, they have these little minty dog strips that look like listerine strips at Pet Co. That’s what I use and it works pretty well.

if she is having bad breath then she may need to see the vet because it could be an ear infection or a bad tooth!!! not to worry take her to the vet and let him check it out!!!! also if her diet consists of only wet/can food or she gets it at all it could cause bad breath!!! if she only eats wet food then you need to switch her gradually to dry only because only wet food can lead to tooth problems when she gets older!!!!

Start with a good teeth cleaning from your vet and have him looked over. There are some health reasons that could be causing the bad breath. Brush his teeth every other day, or daily if you can. You can also try breath mints made for dogs for after his meals. Some dogs just have stinky breath by nature, but you should have him looked over by a vet just in case. Good luck!!

Have her teeth checked by a vet to see if she has any serious problems going on, such as gum disease or excess tartar.
Also, bad breath can stem from bad diet. If her body isn’t processing the food well, then the majority will just sit and basically rot in her stomach, a smell that permeates up the throat and out the mouth.
Also, check to see if she’s having a problem with her anal glands. If she’s not expressing them on her own, then she’s trying to relieve the pressure by licking them, thus giving her that “dead fish” breath.

Hummm, brush her teeth. She might fight it at first, but keep trying, eventually she will get used to it. I brush my dogs teeth three times a day as I do my own teeth and he loves it. He will go get his toothpaste and toothbrush out of the bathroom and bring it to me. Also, try getting her some denta bones. They help alot and are not very costly. You can get them at any pet store and at Wal-Mart.

Go to the vet and get a prescription food called “TD.” It is a fiber type food rather than a granular food and as the dog eats it the fibers scrub their teeth and keep their mouth clean. I use the 1 inch size for all my dogs, even the 4 pound Chihuahua. She will grab one from the bowl then go to her bed and sit there for the next few minutes chewing it down. None of my dogs have tooth problems or bad breathe.
Your other alternative is to get a tooth brush and dog tooth paste and start brushing the teeth every day. Have fun.,

Dogs and cats are just as humans.U can take her to the Vet and let them clean her teethe and then brush them regularly.greenies is a good treat also that cleans their teeth also. And at the Vets office they now make a mouthwash that u can ad to their water bowl.
U can also get the same products Ur vet uses at pet edge.Ive included a link to their dental items. And they are a fraction of the cost.Hope this helps

I was told to put some canned pumpkin in their food. Not the pie mix. It’s supposed to eliminate bad breath in dogs.

My dogs both love the greenie treats and neither of them have doggie breath. Try feeding her more things that are hard, like milkbones, or dentabones. You could try using a finger dog tooth brush and cleaning her teeth after she eats. They make special dog toothpast that tasts like peanut butter. You might want to put her on a diet since she is a small dog. As to the grass eating thing, just keep her away from the lawn mower and don’t let her eat it. That’s just a matter of training. Good luck.

you’d really need a healthy check up to verify where it comes from. minty smell in the mouth may just cover the problem, not fix it. So, visit the vet.
But for your home remedy, If its the food and that breath that smells, changing the food can make the difference.
If it is tartar build up, or gingivitis, a professional teeth cleaning, with your follow up on keeping them clean.
Otherwise, dogs do have dog breath. : ) We brush our teeth every day to prevent build up and smell. Doing the same for your dog helps. Chewies, minty strips, T/D by science diet all irritate the surface of the tooth, preventing the build up.
So start by checking out the build up. If the teeth are not pearly white to the gums, or the gums are red and inflamed, hit the doctor for a through cleaning.
Eating the grass may be another symptoms of diet? dogs normally eat grass when they don’t’ feel great, and then vomit. Your dog cannot digest grass. but, that doesn’t mean you little dog isn’t just having fun with the the grass cubes.
Good luck!

The dog should be seen by the vet. The vet will need to clean it’s teeth. We had a doxie that had bad breathe too.

Yes brushing your dog’s teeth is a good ides and better if you do it everyday, but it only helps if you’re starting with a clean slate. Small dogs usually have nastier teeth than large dogs becasue they have the same number of teeth cramed into a much smaller mouth. This creates lots of tight spaces for food and tartar to accumulate. At 6yrs old, if they have never been professionally cleaned, now is the time. The bacteria is what’s causing the bad breath and it can cause larger problems than just bad breath. That bacteria can flow through the bloodstream showering the entire body with bacteria. It usually goes to the heart valves, liver and kidneys. My dachsund is 5 and he’s had his teeth cleaned twice already. This is done under full anesthesia and is actually a tedious process. Ask your vet for an estimate, so you know what your looking at. If its something that you need to put off, ask about Pulse Therapy. Its a short course of antibiotics given on the first 5 days of each month that knocks back the bacteria. It usually helps with the breath and can buy you some time until getting them cleaned.

Dog’s breath in general is not the best smell anyway. You may be able to control it with her diet to some extent. There are also dog tooth pastes available but this is not treating the root of the problem. As for the over weight problem, you need to monitor her meals and only give her the recommended food allowance for her size and weight. I do this by feeding my dogs individually portioned meals specific to them (www.bestnaturalpet.com). Lastly, the grass eating is usually due to an upset stomach. Dogs eat grass because it calms their stomach and helps them digest their food. Either way, I recommend looking at her diet to address these problems.
