Why does my parrot have bad breath? He has always had it and is now seven years old. ?

This is especially annoying because he likes to get right in my face and breath on me. It’s sort of garlicky, but he doesn’t eat garlic. Maybe he needs more vegetables? Otherwise he seems perfectly healthy. Thanks. P.S. If you own a bird, does he have bad breath?
Thanks Soye! I bet it’s his hatred of vegetables. He likes them cooked though. I’ll start serving him some extra meals everyday. Maybe I can microwave frozen ones.

Actually, my bird DOES have bad breath. But only after he has regurgitated food on his mirror. Does your parrot regurgitate food? I noticed it smelled somewhat like garlic too, for me, it smelled like a certain type of Korean dish. A garlicky one. I’m not aware that this is a problem.
I just looked it up, and apparently it’s diet-related, so maybe it is sort of a problem, or at the very least a sign you should feed him more fruits and veggies like you said. A vitamin defiency is the likeliest cause, though bad breath AND altered behavior/condition are signs of avian disease when they are present together. Since you say your parrot seems healthy, don’t panic. It’d be a good idea to take him to the vet for a checkup, though, in case he has got “Candidiasis” (link in sources).
Hope I helped a bit! Good luck and good times with your birdy.
